Summer concert series finale features Nashville artist Tommy Womack
Nashville singer/songwriter Tommy Womack will perform Saturday, September 20, during this year’s “Concert on the Porch” finale at the Delta Heritage Center in Brownsville. The Americana-themed concert will begin at 7 p.m., and also features Tucson Simpson and Brownsville’s young talent, Alina Woods.
Womack has been called “Nashville’s best loved musical eccentric,” mixing country, blues and rock to bring his own version of Americana to audiences around the country. He is an award-winning artist and a published author. Many will remember him as the lead for the legendary post-punk band Government Cheese. Womack’s songwriting style has been compared to that of Hank Williams and applauded for his “regular guy” lyrics.
Opening for Womack will be Tucson Simpson Unplugged featuring the musical talents of Graham Perry and Kevin Kilgore. The duo will entertain with an eclectic mix of blues, pop and roots rock. This group is enjoying success on the Memphis club circuit and has performed at numerous festivals including Memphis in May Barbecue Fest and Exit 56 Blues Fest in Brownsville.
Seventeen year old Alina Woods, a regular “on the porch,” will share her special blend of country and pop. Adding to the variety of this year’s last performances ‘on the porch.’
Bleacher seating is available or bring lawn chairs for the outdoor concert. Concessions will be on site. You are also welcome to bring a picnic or visit the surrounding restaurants.
