The Haywood County Election Commission would like to remind everyone that Tuesday, September 22nd is National Voter Registration Day. It is the high point of National Voter Registration Month, a time when state and county election officials work to encourage voter participation as well as increase awareness of voting requirements and deadlines.

“National Voter Registration Day is a great time to make sure that your registration is up to date or to register for the first time” said Haywood Administrator of Elections Andrea Smothers. “Many people have seen the recent campaign to register on Facebook. Tennessee joined forces with Facebook to help its citizens register to vote or update their voter registration. Once individuals click the link they are directed to the GoVoteTN online voter registration site,” Smothers said. Smothers also noted, “Citizens may go directly to the GoVoteTN website to register or update information. As we approach the November 3 Presidential Election, we would like to encourage voters to download the GoVoteTN app to view pertinent information regarding early voting and Election Day hours, sample ballots, candidate lists, etc. The app is available for iOS and Android mobile devices, as well as online.”

“I am excited to see so many people share their enthusiasm about voting,” said Smothers. “I encourage voters to use this opportunity to ensure they are properly registered.” For additional information Smothers may be reached at the Haywood County Election Office, 772-1760
