BROWNSVILLE TN (AUGUST 25, 2015): Rev. Grover Westover will celebrate the release of his first music CD during a Release Party Friday, August 28, from 5-7 p.m., at the Delta Heritage Center in Brownsville. The event will feature a short program beginning at 5:30 that will include remarks by the artist, a live performance of select songs from the disc entitled I Believe, and an opportunity for Westover to sign CDs. This is a free public event.
His first musical experience was in the 4th grade when he began learning to play the accordion. Thinking there “might not be a big demand for accordion players,” Westover switched to the guitar in high school. He is an active member of the Jackson Plectral Society and since 2005 has played regularly with the group Wildwood Express, an old time string band.
Born in Humboldt, Tenn., Westover spent most of his childhood in Pinson. He graduated from South Side High School in Jackson and Boyce Bible School in Louisville, Ky. After pasturing churches in West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee, he became pastor of Harmony Baptist Church in Haywood County in 1995 and married his wife, Judy, in 1998.
“A lot of preachers play golf or hunt or fish,” says Westover, “My relaxation comes from playing the guitar and singing.”
Westover also spends time doing programs for senior groups and singing at revivals and community events. He decided to record his music at the urging of friends and family and chose to record in Hickory Withe at Gumball Studios, the studio of fellow Plectral Society member Bill Weir.
CDs will be sold for a suggested donation of $10, with all proceeds going towards a liver transplant fund for his wife. For more information about the release, contact the Delta Heritage Center at 731-779-9000. The Center is located at 121 Sunny Hill Cove, Brownsville.
