Highway 222 near Stanton about to be moved
State to make additional investment in megasite
A road improvement undertaking that’s expected to cost about $17 million will soon to be underway in Haywood County. It’s part of Tennessee’s speculation in the Memphis Megasite located at the southwest edge of Haywood County.
Friday, the Tennessee Department of Transportation is expected to award contracts for the work.
The improvement and realignment project moves Tennessee 222 east of its present location and affects the area from I-40 to Muex Corner south of Stanton. (You can see the map by clicking here.) The state reports that the purchase of right-away property is near completion. The goal is to improve infrastructure for the future industrial complex state economic leaders envision for the over 3,000 acre tract the highway will serve.
Tennessee has more than $100 million invested in the project.
