Haywood County man to run J.C. Penney
Marvin Ellison will soon become the headman at department store giant J.C. Penney. Ellison, 49, is the son of Ivory T. Ellison and the late Mrs. Ellison of Cox Lane in Brownsville. He attended Haywood County Schools in Brownsville.
J.C. Penney made the announcement this week, snatching Ellison from his job as executive vice-president of Home Depot where he was in charge of the chains 2,000 stores. He was often mentioned as a candidate to become the next CEO of Home Depot. Ellison has also spent time in executive suites at Target and Lowe’s.
According to a column published in the Wall Street Journal, Ellison will join Penney November 1 as president but won’t become the CEO until next August. Until then the present CEO, Mike Ullman, will mentor him. Ellison will also join Penney’s board of directors.
Ellison graduated from the University of Memphis and got his M.B.A. from Emory University.
