Christmas cheer to be delivered tomorrow in Haywood County
It’s been a week of buying.
Saturday will be a day of giving.
All during this week volunteers have been busy buying toys and groceries for Haywood County’s needy families. Funding for the buying spree came from donations made by Brownsville (WNWS-AM/WTBG-FM) listeners during the station’s Radiothon conducted earlier this month.
About 225 Christmas baskets have been prepared. The project relies on volunteers to deliver the gifts. The delivery process begins about 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. “Those that would like to help deliver should come to the Brownsville Utility Department’s gas warehouse located on Dupree Street. Volunteers will provide addresses for the delivery and load your vehicles with the baskets,” Mayor Franklin Smith said. Smith is the station’s co-sponsor.
About $19,600 was promised during the 95.3 Christmas Basket Radiothon but donations have reached nearly $22,000. All of the money is spent on toys and groceries.
