Brownsville’s annual Christmas Parade includes afternoon children’s activities

Brownsville’s Christmas Parade, held annually on the first Saturday of December, continues to grow with afternoon activities for the children. This year’s event, December 5, will include a kid’s parade, story time with Mrs. Claus, visits with Santa, caroling, food and the grand finale parade. The event is sponsored by the Brownsville Haywood County Rescue Squad. This year’s parade theme is “Jingle Bell Rock.”

Children, of all ages, are invited to join Santa on the courthouse lawn at 2 p.m., for the annual Children’s Parade. Come dressed in festive attire and decorate your bikes, tricycles, scooters, battery-operated vehicles, wagons, etc., and even the pets are invited to join in. Santa will lead the sidewalk parade around the courthouse. Each child will receive a ribbon for participating.

Following the Children’s Parade, Santa will hang around to visit with all the children and pose for pictures until 5:30 p.m. Complimentary photos with Santa will be available courtesy of Dynamix Physical Therapy and All That’s Victoria Boutique. Children are invited to bring their wish lists and letters to Santa, too.

Mrs. Claus will join the fun at 3 p.m., for StoryTime. She and her helpers will entertain the children with Christmas stories throughout the afternoon courtesy of Williams’ Nationwide Insurance. Choirs and carolers will present live music from the parade stage beginning at 4 p.m. There will also be food on site to purchase and Haywood County Parks and Recreation will be set-up with their Candy Buckets, too.

The finale will begin at 6 p.m., when Grand Marshal Jerry Wilson leads the annual Christmas Parade. The parade route begins at Boyd and East Main Street and continues around the courthouse and down West Main to McLemore St. The community is invited to line-up along the street to view the parade. Rescue Squad members and others will pass out candy along the parade route to children. Santa will also ride in the parade.
