Shop Brownsville First winners announced

The Brownsville Business Association’s annual Shop Brownsville First campaign resulted in big winners who walked away with a 50-inch TV, Chamber bucks and recognition for their decorating and promotion efforts. The campaign ran November 28 – December 19, 2015. The campaign was co-sponsored by the Brownsville-Haywood County Chamber of Commerce.

Eight local businesses participated in the event that began with a Cash Mob, a “Deck the Courthouse” Christmas tree decorating competition and a chance to get in on the social media craze with Selfie Shopping. The event ended with a Christmas Pop-Up Shop, a visit from Santa and drawings for the Big Prize Giveaway that included a 50-inch TV and $250 in Chamber Bucks.

Phillip Knowles was the winner of the 50-inch TV. Anthony Hendrix , Pat Bailey and Jerry Chavers are Chamber Buck winners. Silver Linings Café and Coffee won the “Selfie Shopping” award for most social media mentions. The courthouse Christmas tree, decorated by employees, won the “People’s Choice” award in the “Deck the Courthouse” competition.

While the Shop Brownsville First campaign is heavily promoted during the holiday season, residents are encouraged to shop locally year round and asked to always check to see if a purchase can be made in Brownsville before shopping elsewhere.
