Ambulance Authority Home to be named in Honor of Jimmy Studdard
For 42 years one man has been the heart, soul and face of the Brownsville-Haywood County Ambulance Authority.
He is Jimmy Studdard, and now the building where he has spent almost his entire working career will bear his name.
In a unanimous vote by the Haywood County Commission on Monday night, commissioners approved a motion to rename the ambulance authority building in honor of Studdard.
The ambulance authority is located in the industrial park.
Commissioner Robert Green made the motion after County Mayor Franklin Smith informed commissioners that Studdard is currently in difficult health. Amidst strength rehabilitation at Crestview’s rehab unit, Smith said, Studdard is still manning his post—walkie talkie in hand.
“We all know when you talk about the Haywood County Ambulance Authority you’re talking about Jimmy Studdard,” said Commissioner Green. “And with Haywood County being an acts of kindness community…I would like to make a motion to name that building after Jimmy Studdard.”
Alan King seconded the motion, saying, “The Ambulance Authority has been Jimmy Studdard.”
Mayor Smith says he expects to have a sign up within the next three weeks. “We’ve come a long way,” he said.
“Jimmy should get some credit for it.”
