Shop Brownsville announces economic impact; prize winners

The 2014 Shop Brownsville First campaign, Nov. 29 – Dec. 20, resulted in big prizes for two residents and a significant economic impact for local merchants. Starting on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 29, the Brownsville Business Association, Main Street Brownsville and the Chamber of Commerce joined forces for the 5th annual Shop Brownsville First campaign. The push produced an economic impact of over $70,000, boasted the highest merchant participation to date and included Brownsville’s first Cash Mob event.

The event kicked off with a record 12 participating merchants and Brownsville’s first Cash Mob event on Nov. 29. Cash Mob shoppers took the challenge to spend a minimum of $10 locally during a designated time period and were rewarded with extra chances to win.

The 3-week campaign ended Dec. 20, with a public drawing for a 50-inch HDTV and $250 in Chamber bucks. The lucky winner of the TV was Lynn Correa. Barbie Smith won the Chamber bucks. Several smaller prizes were also awarded to local residents.
