Employment picture continues to brighten for rural West Tennessee; Haywood County rate drops

Employment picture continues to brighten for rural West Tennessee; Haywood County rate drops

According to state labor experts, more of us have jobs right now than in recent monhs. Excepting one county, the unemployment rate in Haywood and surrounding counties dropped again last month. Wednesday afternoon the Tennessee Bureau of Labor Statistics released the data for October.

The Bureau reports there are 8,180 people in the Haywood County workforce and 7,480 people have jobs.
Area counties unemployment rates:

  • Madison: 6.5% (The rate is down from 6.6% from a month earlier and 8.4% from a year ago)
  • Crockett: 7.6% (The rate is down from 7.7% a month earlier but down from 8.9% from a year ago)
  • Tipton: 7.8% (The rate is up from 7.7% a month earlier and 9.9% from a year ago)
  • Fayette: 7.8% (The rate is down from 8.1% a month earlier and 9.7% from a year ago)
  • Hardeman: 8.6% (The rate is down from 9.1% a month earlier and 11.7% from a year ago)
  • Haywood: 8.6% (The rate is down from 8.9% a month earlier and 11.4% from a year ago)
  • Lauderdale: 10.4% (The rate is down from 10.9% a month earlier and 13.3% from a year ago)
