Grant to report – what will the Central Dispatch report say?

If Central Dispatch Chairman Joe Stephens has had a sneak peek at the outside investigation focusing on the operations at the city/county-dispatching center, he isn’t saying. Stephens has called a meeting of the dispatch board for 2pm today.

Stephens told Brownsville Radio he would release the report today but not ask board members to comment just yet. Another meeting will be called after members have taken time to read the document.

The board hired Mark Grant and will pay him $7,500 for his work that includes reviewing records and tape recordings. The action came after the Brownsville States-Graphic published an investigative report charging that dispatchers were behaving inappropriately while on the job and poorly managed at least two emergency calls.

Brownsville, Haywood County and fees from 911 income fund the answering/dispatching service located in a bunker at the Justice Complex. Central Dispatch is responsible for communications for all of Haywood County’s emergency service including sheriff, police, ambulance and fire departments.
