Brownsville officials were notified yesterday that the Tennessee Historical Commission has approved the cityís application for two new historic districts. The Dunbar/Carver and Jefferson Street Historic Districts have been added to Tennesseeís list.

In an e-mail to Brownsville Historic Planning Board Member Sharon Hayes, state historic personnel told Hayes that the commission expressed excitement about the additions. ìOne board member even stated that the viewpoints presented in the nomination were something they never really get to see or review Ö Dr. Carroll Van West from MTSU even got up to sing praise for the attention given to Brownsville and for the accuracy and exceptional representation of the African American community in West Tennessee as seen throughout the nominations,î state historic official Rebecca Hightower wrote in her mail to Hayes.
